ASK ME!!! About MeMy ArtCommissiontwitter (public)Fashion BlogPortfolioNext pageArchive

Yay I finally got to color this! I saved in progress shots, was going to try to make a gif, but I need to figure out how exactly to do that. So anyways, just a drawing about new friends. This drawing makes me think about the performative stiffness I go through when trying to interact with a new person in my life. I love people and making deep connections with them. However, something about those initial phases are a lot of work. I know for myself I tend to feel awkward, stand-offish, and worked up. I especially freak out when I am invited to a new friend’s space. Thankfully, after a few tries and a couple of drinks I usually wind up making a wonderful friend. It’s not you - it’s me.

metaenshrouded asked: what is so awful about the administration?

i, and a lot of other students, disagree with how the illustration major is run. illustration students make up a third of the entire student body, which is ludicrous. they intentionally let in people who aren’t good so that they can make more money. i’ve spoken with teachers who are in charge of reviewing entrance portfolios and they are shocked at the skill level of some people they have to allow in. classes are woefully overcrowded as a result and a lot of people (ME) can’t get into required classes. the advice from administration is “try again next term”. illustration is used as a cash cow for the rest of the school. we don’t even have our own work spaces. they built some “homeroom” thing, but it’s 15 minutes away on another campus and you have to pay to use it, and afaik there’s no place to actually work, just couches and stuff. no one i know has actually been there.

when we bring up these concerns, we’re told to “not be critical” and “not raise a fuss”. but at $18,000 a term we are not getting adequate resources compared to the other majors. transportation design gets their own room, couches, and cintiq monitors. entertainment design gets their own room that you need a card to enter, cintiq monitors, AND A FRIDGE. when we asked for something similar, they told us to go outside and work there. the core problem is that they let in waaaaaaay too many illustration students, and then they don’t have the space/funding to accommodate us. on term it typically takes 1-2 hours to meet with an adviser to get one question answered or get one form signed because we have ONE ADVISER. stuff like that. the teachers speak out but nothing changes. students speak out and we’re told to be quiet. it’s really disheartening.

I have to agree with the fact that this is all true (because hello Art Center Student studying illustration)….and let me add my frustration with my school:

I’m angry by the fact that they give to scholarships to students WHO DOES NOT TAKE ART SERIOUSLY…because I’ve seen a lot of first term students not giving any shit with their school works and fooling around. I remember this one girl and idk how the hell she got into Art Center because she cannot draw a fucking head (btw a lot of students come in with average drawing skills but this girl cannot draw at all).

That bring up the new campus. I go to the campus three times a week because let’s be honest, its a real good working environment (there’s a cintiq lab, homeroom, and less people)….but the con: you have to pay fucking $25 for key card access like oh c’mon…..we’re almost paying 18k and I still need to pay $25…..for key card access.

btw tuition used to be 15k when I came into Art Center. Plus Art Center needs to stop buying stupid shit like what monitors in every wall at school to show current activities/news…really we need new desks and easels…

I’ve been holding on to this for a long time and I want to clear this up with my followers (old and new):

If you are planning on using my art for Banner/icon/header/BG/cover, please please PLEASE ASK ME….because some few are for friends/requests/projects/etc. I especially don’t like it when I don’t get your messages and you use them before getting my approval…because that is really rude.

I just hope you guys understand because I’ve been dealing with this for a long time and it makes me incredibly stressed and it makes me want to stop drawing fanarts. So please if tumblr happens to eat your messages, then you can also ask me on my public twitter (because I am literally on twitter everyday).

I hope you guys understand.
